Spill The Sound - The Clause & Alex Spencer

  • Episode two of StreamGM’s Spill The Sound kicks off with indie four piece The Clause.

  • Playing two super catchy indie bangers from their latest EP ‘Pop Culture’, this brilliant Birmingham band bring buckets of 90’s Britpop-esque swagger to the show.

The Clause are Pearce Macca (lead vocals/guitar), Niall Fennell (drummer) Jonny Fyffe (bassist) and Liam Deakin (guitarist) and are playing a host of festivals this Summer, including: YNOT, The Great Escape, Live At Leeds, and James at Ludlow Castle with Sleeper.

With two singles hitting No1 in the iTunes rock chart , UK tour support for likes of Lottery Winners, The Reytons, the Pigeon Detectives, DMAs, and The Snuts and their own headline UK tours, The Clause are one of the hottest breakthrough bands in the UK.

Pearce Macca from The Clause takes to the infamous Spill The Sound bathtub with presenter Louise Schofield, to talk about their epic debut EP - Pop Culture, staying in very dodgy hotels, sharing the stage with McFly, their fans getting tattoos and big plans for 2024!

Pearce said: “We had the best time on StreamGM’s Spill the Sound with Louise and the team, it’s a great, enticing platform that we’re sure is the start of something that will only get better as time goes on.”

Joining The Clause is the ridiculously talented Alex Spencer - already been hailed as one of the UK's most promising songwriters - at only 16 years old.

Combining infectious guitar lines with his street-savvy voice and coming-of-age tales of youthful exuberance, Alex’s rousing debut EP ‘One Step Forward’, was recorded when Alex was still at school and reflects a maturity and natural songwriting ability far beyond his years. His EP was met with widespread acclaim and earned radioplay from BBC 6 Music, Radio X, XS Manchester and BBC Introducing.

Alex performs his super catchy single ‘One Step Forward’ in Louise’s Rising Stars slot.

Signed to hit-making indie label Modern Sky UK (Red Rum Club, The Coral, The Lottery Winners, The Lathums), Alex’s unique talent and incredible personal story caught the attention of national press as his music was broadcast to the world via BBC News’ Tik Tok, ITV’s Granada reports and The Premier League’s Global show. He was also championed by The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham for his coveted ‘GM Artist of the Month’ slot with BBC Radio Manchester.

Following on from his busking roots, Alex has become renowned for his captivating live performances and has gone on to support the likes of Jamie Webster at a packed out O2 Victoria Warehouse and Miles Kane at two nights at Camden’s Electric Ballroom as well as headlining and selling out one of his home city’s most iconic venues, The Deaf Institute, and becoming the first musician to ever perform live on Sky Sports’ news.

Info and tickets for Alex’s upcoming gigs are listed on his website.

With a mission to recapture some of the magic of Generation X music programming, StreamGM’s Spill The Sound blends new and unsigned acts alongside established headliners.

Spill The Sound mixes quirky interviews in a bathtub full of plastic balls, hook-a-duck quick fire QnA’s with Louise Schofield. Her cheerful chats peppered with exclusive live music sessions, are reminiscent of legendary music television programmes such as: Channel 4’s music show Popworld, Granada TV’s ‘So It Goes’ (hosted by Antony Wilson) & Snub TV, a cult music show that launched The Stone Roses.

Louise said: “It was brilliant to have The Clause on Spill The Sound for a headline session, they are making waves and have been gigging relentlessly. I’ve followed them for a while and I have enjoyed watching their rapid ascent. The Clause’s music is infectious and they have such a presence live that resonates so well with their fans which is why I knew they would be perfect for the show.

“Interviewing Pearce was so fun and we unearthed some great little stories. Accompanied by my rising star, Alex Spencer, who is such a talent and still in his teens, he’s already sharing the stage with some incredible bands and selling out his own shows. This is a real sizzler of an episode, if you’re new to either of these artists, after watching this episode you’ll be adding them to your playlists for sure!”

The show is filmed in The Yard Mcr, a former Victorian school in the heart of Manchester’s Cheetham Hill. This unique setting with stunning natural acoustics, partnered with StreamGM’s production team and the support of pioneering digital broadcast technology company Blackmagic Design, gives acts a high quality, global platform to promote their music.
